Poetry workshops for people who may or may not call themselves poets.
You don’t need to understand poetic rhythm.
You don’t need a notebook filled with devastating observations about the moon.
And you absolutely don’t need to introduce yourself as a poet.
Our workshops are for people who want to write, experiment, meet other creative humans and see what happens when they give their words a little more room.
Write first. Decide what it means later.
Writer’s block often gets worse when we’re trying to make something impressive.
So we take some of that pressure away.
Expect prompts, strange ideas, conversation, experiments, unfinished things and plenty of permission to write badly before something interesting happens.
You never have to perform.
Sharing is encouraged when it feels useful.
Some people eventually discover they love reading their work aloud.
Others keep writing quietly.
Both belong here.
Poetry can be a confidence practice.
Putting words on a page can help us understand what we think.
Sharing those words can help us practise being heard.
That’s one of the reasons poetry sits at the heart of Community ArtReach.

What people say
“The poetry workshops were a beautifully curated and thoughtful space for people of varying experience levels to learn and create. There was no pressure whatsoever to share our work, and yet, it was such a safe and joyous space that we all actively wanted to. As someone with no prior experience of writing poetry, I learnt plenty of practical skills in overcoming writer's block, finding inspiration and experimenting with different forms of writing. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn a new skill, as well as those who wish to share and collaborate with other creatives or refine their craft.”
— Chloe
“This was my first ever poetry workshop and I was so nervous initially! My worries quickly dissipated though, as everyone was so lovely and welcoming. I really enjoyed how the sessions were run and being around such talented writers. I always left feeling so inspired.”
— Janie
