The Real Life Project.

Individual programs, built around your NDIS plan.

There are a lot of things we're somehow expected to just know how to do.

Job interviews. Making friends. Managing money. Cooking for yourself. Setting boundaries. Keeping on top of emails and appointments. Figuring out what you want to do with your life.

But where exactly are you supposed to learn all of that?

Welcome to The Real Life Project.

The Life Lab is a one-to-one, 10-week capacity-building program where we work on the parts of life you want to feel more confident navigating.

No generic worksheets. No predetermined program you have to fit into.

We start with you.

Together, we'll identify what you'd like to change, learn or feel more confident doing, then build your 10 sessions around those goals.

You might spend all 10 weeks working towards one big goal. Or your Life Lab might be a combination of employment, relationships, cooking, money, confidence and everyday life skills.

How it works

Sessions run 2 hours each session for 10 sessions, delivered online so you can join from your own space and be comfortable. Choose one focus area or combine a few, depending on what's most useful to you.

What we specialise in

  • Social skills + unmasking – confidence in social situations, communication, relationships, boundaries and self-advocacy, exploring connection without needing to hide who you are. Feeling a little lost? We can help guide you in finding new interests.
  • Employment + interview mentoring – resumes, applications, interview practice, workplace communication and confidence navigating employment, whether it's your first job or a career change.
  • Everyday life admin & money things – claiming tax, budgeting and financial planning, appointments, emails and life admin, with the goal of building skills you can use independently.
  • Cooking + nutrition – meal planning, shopping and cooking confidence. Naarm/Melbourne-based participants can access this face-to-face; otherwise it's delivered online.

Your program, your goals

You don't need a fixed plan before reaching out – we'll talk through what matters to you and build the program together from there. If you are plan or self-managed, we can bill through your capacity building budget, ask us how to get started.

What is Draw Your (S)words?

Draw Your (S)words is more than just a monthly spoken word event. It is a place where we proudly offer a platform for all to share their stories, connect in a safe space and feel included. It is more of a family.

There is never any pressure to perform at our events or workshops, your work is sacred to you and we will respect if you don't want to share.

Is your workshop content accessible?

Yes, we believe accessibility and inclusion should be the bare minimum. Our content is designed by and for neurodivergent folks. And all DYS events are held in wheelchair accessible spaces.

What will I need to attend a workshop?

An open mind, something to write with/on and your willingness to brave the vulnerability that poetry offers.
